As the season associated with all things rich and decadent, it’s not surprising that the fall 2012 runways featured a slew of oxblood-hued fashion and beauty looks. The vampy color was given a luxe touch in leather, found everywhere from Peter Som, to Alexander Wang, to Acne. Angular, body-conscious silhouettes give the color a timeless appeal, yet are very much suited to the modern day in their daring details, including oversized sleeves, heavy textures, and unconventional twists on the classics (such as Alexander Wang’s mesh turtleneck).
Beauty-wise, oxblood tinged lips were heavily favored over the go-to red, while the rest of the face was left natural as to not divert the focus from the bold mouth. Brows were concealed at both Haider Ackerman and Gucci, while some designers allowed a strong brow to be the sole focus of the face. Oxblood-tinged nail polish provides for a quick and easy way to take on this season’s trend, a great option being Essie’s “Red Hard” (below).
