Lynn Hirschberg, editor at large of The New York Times Magazine, has provided a video series of incredibly candid interviews, or “screen tests,” conducted in a format that leads to a more intimate glimpse of her subjects than most media of its kind. Celebrities divulge the circumstances that led them to their particular career path, as well as the role cinema has had throughout their lives. Although these are relatively common interview questions for an actor (What’s the first movie you saw? What was your first audition like? What was the first movie to have made you cry?), they are conducted with a rare simplicity, allowing for a more genuine response. Joseph Gordon Levitt’s is my favorite, for obvious reasons.
