Eco-Friendly Beauty

Living an eco-friendly lifestyle may seem unattainable, yet even the smallest efforts truly make a difference, including the beauty products you use. This site, which rates the health hazard level of  products (there are currently over 76,000 in its database), demonstrates the harmful nature of many currently on the market, proving the benefit of natural products. Here are a few tried and true eco-friendly favorites of mine.

The success of supermodel Josie Maran’s cult favorite beauty product, 100% Pure Argan Oil, was the turning point in her transformation into a cosmetics pioneer. Josie Maran Cosmetics is an eco-minded brand featuring natural, organic, and non-toxic products and features effective, quality items-from a lip and cheek stain, to self-heating hair treatments.

Tarte has been a favorite of mine ever since they came out with those lip and cheek stains back in the early 2000’s. Fortunately, the brand is 100% eco-friendly, including the recyclable packaging. I wear the Amazonian clay blush daily (in “Adored”), a long-wearing formula that consists of sun-baked clay harvested in the Amazon River.

Scotch Naturals Polish are water-based, non-toxic nail polishes that are also solvent-free and eco-friendly, yet are salon-quality, long-lasting, and come in a wide variety of shades. Polishes are cruelty-free, gluten-free, fragrance-free, as well as void of harmful chemicals frequently featured in nail polish. Hopscotch, the brand’s new line for kids, includes a rainbow of shades aptly named after children’s games.

Another (tasty) eco-favorite of mine is Momofuku Milk Bar. Although stationed in NYC, the Milk Bar delivers their quirky treats throughout the United States (think flavors like “Cereal Milk” soft serve and “Blueberry & Cream” cookies). “Karlie’s Kookies,” a dark chocolate and oat combo, helmed by this gal, are vegan and gluten-free, come in an eco-friendly box, and benefit the FEED organization, with each cookie sold providing ten school lunches for children throughout the world.
