Flavored Water

Picture 39

Although the long held belief, that eight glasses of water are required in order to for the body to perform its necessary functions,  has recently been debunked, its numerous benefits, including youthful, glowing skin make guzzling water all the more appetizing. Being that I find it difficult to drink even a quarter of this amount in a single day, I’ve recruited outside help in order to stay hydrated. While cucumber is one of the easiest ways to infuse water with flavor, I tested out citrus-based, blackberry-sage, and raspberry=-lime combinations that are simple, inexpensive, and flavorful ways to incorporate water into your diet.

Citrus Mix

  • 3 oranges
  • 2 limes
  • 2 lemons
  • 1 grapefruit
  • Handful of mint leaves

Except for one orange, cut all fruit into 1/2 inch slices, giving half of the resulting slices an additional cut through the diameter. Squeeze the juice of remaining orange into pitcher and add water, mint leaves, ice cubes, and fruit slices. Garnish with a sprig of mint.

Raspberry Lime

  • 2 limes
  • 1 pint of raspberries
  • Handful of mint leaves

Squash a third of the raspberries and place in pitcher (optional). Add the remainder of the raspberries, plus ice cubes, 1/2 inch slices of limes, and mint leaves. Garnish with a sprig of mint.

Blackberry Sage

  • 1 handful of sage
  • 1 pint of blackberries

Squash a third of the blackberries and place in the pitcher (optional). Add sage, ice cubes, and remainder of blackberries to water.

  2. Mmm, the blackberry sage water sounds so good to me. I also like to put watermelon chunks in my water – so tasty!
