Each season on Fox’s hit show, New Girl, a select few punchlines are directed at Jess, Zooey Deschanel’s character, poking fun at the media’s heralding of Deschanel as the queen of quirk, an implication she strays from. While much of her success has been built on her so-called quirky characteristics-her wit, offbeat sense of humor, and yes, vintage-inspired fashion sense, it was only a matter of time until the fashion world came calling. A chance meeting with Tommy Hilfiger, in which she and the designer found a mutual appreciation for vintage, had, by the end of the night, resulted in their teaming up for a capsule collection. The self-proclaimed “fashion fanatic” seems to have found her ideal collaborator in Tommy, saying “Tommy and I share many of the same inspirations — old school music, classic films and old Hollywood icons.” The designer also sang her praises, deeming her a true “Tommy Girl”: “She is the epitome of it — all-American, youthful, fun and funny, yet she has a sophistication and worldliness to her that’s quite endearing.” This spring, their 16-piece spring collection, with prices ranging from $98 to $199, will be sold at 200 Macy’s stores in North America, Europe, and Japan. Jewelry and handbags from the collection will also be available at select Tommy Hilfiger stores.
